What’s great about our Frequency Converter

Fast, accurate conversion of frequencies that you can see and drag

    • Free
    • Converts hertz, kilohertz, megahertz and gigahertz instantly
    • Synced sliders and type-in boxes
    • No sign-up
    • No ads
    • Works offline once loaded
    • No daily limit
  2. 01

    Choose which units to show

Use the unit names at the top to show or hide each card. Drag a name or a card’s title to rearrange them; your order is remembered in this browser, and Restore puts the original order back.

  3. 02

Drag a slider or type a value

Move any slider, or type a number into its “Type Value” box, and every visible unit updates instantly. The sliders are logarithmic, so each step along a slider multiplies the value, and one slider covers very small to very large amounts.

  4. 03

    Widen the range

Turn on “Wider Range” to widen every slider’s range to cover more extreme values.

What is Frequency?

Frequency is how many times something repeats each second, measured in hertz. Sound pitch, radio stations, Wi-Fi and processor speeds are all frequencies. This converter moves between hertz, kilohertz, megahertz and gigahertz.

About Hertz (Hz)

The hertz is the SI unit of frequency: one cycle per second. It is named after the German physicist Heinrich Hertz.

  • 1 Hz = 1 cycle per second
  • Humans hear roughly 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz
  • Mains electricity is 50 Hz in most of the world and 60 Hz in the Americas and parts of Asia

About Kilohertz (kHz)

A kilohertz is 1,000 hertz, used for audio frequencies and AM radio.

  • 1 kHz = 1,000 Hz
  • Audio CDs sample sound at 44.1 kHz
  • AM radio stations broadcast at hundreds of kHz

About Megahertz (MHz)

A megahertz is 1,000,000 hertz, used for FM radio, television and many electronic circuits.

  • 1 MHz = 1,000 kHz
  • FM radio broadcasts between about 87.5 and 108 MHz
  • Early personal computers ran at a few MHz

About Gigahertz (GHz)

A gigahertz is 1,000,000,000 hertz. It is the unit for processor speeds, Wi-Fi and mobile networks.

  • 1 GHz = 1,000 MHz
  • Modern processors run at roughly 2 to 5 GHz
  • Wi-Fi uses the 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz bands, and microwave ovens run at 2.45 GHz
